How old must a student be to enroll in the ELI?

You must be 17 on the first day of your first session at the ELI.

What do I need to do if I want to transfer from another school?

Apply to the ELI and send all documents. (See: What do I need to apply?). We will send you a transfer-in form. The international advisor (DSO) at your current school must complete it.

Next, send the completed transfer-in form to the ELI. We will send you an admission letter. Give this letter to your international advisor.

Finally, when you arrive on the UA campus, pick up your new I-20 at International Student and Scholar Services (105 B.B. Comer Hall).

How long does it take to get an I-20?

As soon as the ELI receives all of your admission documents, we will issue your I-20 in two or three business days. If you pay a $50 fee, we will send your I-20 by express mail (UPS). The express mail service takes one week or less. Overseas regular mail takes much longer and is hard to predict.

How do I get a visa?

If you want an F-1 student visa, you must first have your I-20 form and admission letter from the ELI. Then go to the SEVIS I-901 website to pay for your SEVIS fee.

Complete the DS-160 application, pay the visa application fee, and schedule an interview with the US embassy/consulate near you. For more information, go to Study in the States.

Do you offer any scholarships?

Yes! We offer a 50% tuition scholarship to current (continuing) students.

Find details here.

How can I pay for tuition?

If you would like to pay before you arrive, there are two payment options: myBama account or Flywire.

After you receive your CWID number via e-mail, you will set up an account at http:/mybama.ua.edu. This will be your student portal for e-mail, registering for classes, and payment for your student charges. You can pay your tuition from this portal by credit or debit card.

If you are unable to pay from your myBama account, or you wish to pay by bank transfer from any country, you may choose to use Flywire at http://ua.flywire.com. You can also pay by debit or credit card using Flywire. These payments should include required fees only; they should not include personal funds. You will need your CWID for this payment method.

Students can also pay by cash, personal check (bank draft from a US bank), money order, or with a debit or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover) upon arrival at the Student Account Services office on campus, 105 Student Services Building.

How do I bring my family with me to the ELI?

For each family member (spouse or child), provide the following information on your application:
full name/date of birth/relationship to you.

Send a copy of each family member’s passport photo page.

Your bank must show proof of $634 per family member for each session you plan to attend.

What do I need to submit if my school or company is sponsoring me?

A letter of support on company/school letterhead

The director/business owner must state that the school/company will financially support your study at the ELI and sign the letter.

What is the deadline for applying?

English Language Institute
One month before the start of the session.

English Lite
One week before the start of the session.

English + Business Program
