    This course is designed to develop your speaking and listening skills using conversation. You will learn about asking for and giving information and opinions, agreeing/disagreeing, and asking for and giving advice. You will learn vocabulary and grammar to speak about a variety of topics. The small class size will give you many opportunities to practice and receive feedback.

    Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30 to 5:30 pm (CST)

    This course is designed to develop your reading and conversational English skills using short stores. You will learn about literary vocabulary, general reading skills, and sharing ideas. You will practice having a discussion in English. The small class size will give you many opportunities to participate and receive feedback.

    Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:00 to 1:00 pm (CST)

    This course is designed to develop your listening and conversational English skills through songs and lyrics. You will listen to a variety of music genres from the rich musical history of the deep South such as Jazz, Blues, Rock and Country. We will discuss the music and its connection to American culture.

    This course is designed to develop your speaking and listening skills. You will learn about the culture of the Southern American states in the US and how they are different from the other regions of the US. You will learn about food, language, traditions, weather, and many other topics. You will also have many opportunities to discuss and share about your culture. The small class size will give you many opportunities to practice and receive feedback.

    This course is designed to develop your speaking and listening skills using humor. You will learn about different types of jokes, styles of humor, and see examples. You will learn vocabulary and intonational skills to develop your humor in English. The small class size will give you many opportunities to practice and receive feedback.

    This course is intended to help familiarize you with the format of the TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test). Through activities, practice tests, and use of online resources, you’ll become acquainted with the questions from each section of the exam. You will practice and receive feedback on the reading, listening, speaking and writing sections of the test.

    Mondays and Wednesdays, 7:00 to 8:00 pm (CST)

    This course is designed for non-native English speakers who are interested in learning how to succeed in a global marketplace. During this 3-week program, you will learn how to be an effective member of a global team, by discussing and learning about cultural biases and how to work with people from other cultures. You will also be taken through the steps necessary to produce professional emails for the workplace that include appropriate language, tone and vocabulary. Finally, we will focus on the networking and interview skills needed to excel in the global marketplace, while building your vocabulary and language skills to help you achieve your professional goals.

    This course is designed to develop your reading and conversation skills. We will read flash fiction (short, short stories) and discuss them. You will learn general and literary vocabulary. Plus, you will have many opportunities to talk about these interesting and thought-provoking stories.

    Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:00 to 1:00 pm (CST)

    This course is designed to develop your speaking and listening skills. You will learn about major American holidays and how Americans like to celebrate them. You will also have many opportunities to discuss and share about holidays and traditions in your culture. The small class size will give you many opportunities to practice and receive feedback.

    Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:00 to 9:00 am (CST)

    This course focuses on speaking and listening activities connected to healthcare. You will practice tasks that are related to everyday nursing situations involving patients. This course will allow you to improve your communication skills, increase healthcare-related vocabulary in English. and feel more confident interacting with patients.

    Details and Pricing

    You must have a stable internet connection (broadband wired or wireless, 3G or 4G/LTE) to join the courses.

    Each course costs $200 + a $25 processing fee. (US dollars)

    The courses include 12 hours over 3 weeks as follows:

    • 2 hours of class meetings per week
    • 1 hour of additional course activities per week
    • 1 hour of tutoring and feedback per week

    You will receive a Certificate of Completion if you attend each class meeting and participate. (Participants do not receive academic credit for these courses.)

    Payment Policies

    • You must complete registration and payment 48 hours before the first class meeting.
    • After you register, you will receive an email with instructions for checking technology and accessing the class data. If you do not receive the email within 24 hours of registering, please contact the ELI immediately.
    • If you decide not to take the class after registering, you must request a refund at least 12 hours before the first class meeting.
      • You can receive a refund of the tuition ($200 US dollars).
      • You cannot receive a refund of the processing fee ($25 US dollars).
      • You cannot receive a refund after the class begins.
