PROGRAM DESCRIPTION - The University of Alabama is offering students the opportunity to earn up to six course credits while visiting the most important archaeological and historical sites in Greece.

The program lasts approximately three weeks under the direction of Dr. Tatiana Tsakiropoulou-Summers. Students who successfully complete the program will earn three to six (3-6) hours credit in CL 380 Classical Civilization and Culture and/or three (3) hours in CL 385 Ancient Greek History.

Pre-requisites and conditions: Students enrolling in CL 380 and/or CL 385 must have completed their freshman year in order to get credit, have a GPA of at least 2.5, and be at least 18 years old. A student does not have to be a Classics major or minor to join this program. The program is open to qualifying students registered at any two- or four-year institution in the United States.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Classics 380 - Ancient Greek Civilization & Culture (3-6 hrs.) This course examines the cultural milestones of Greek civilization and its remains that have survived for over 2500 years. Students will be provided with a list of background readings that must be completed before departing for Greece to facilitate their studies and assignments at the various museums there. Toward the end of the program students will write a paper synthesizing the information collected along the way.

Classics 385 - Ancient Greek History (3 hrs.) Students get a hands-on experience of the country's history. The archaeological sites and museums we visit represent the most important hot-spots of antiquity, where major events took place. The textbook readings correspond to museum assignments for which students are asked to associate certain artifacts with historic events and place them in their socio-political context.
