COURSE
DESCRIPTION
Classics 380
Ancient Greek Civilization & Culture (3-6 hrs.)
This course examines the cultural milestones of Greek civilization and
its remains that have survived for over 2500 years. Students will be
provided with a list of background readings and, will be given assignments
at the various sites in Greece. At the end of the program students will assemble a photographic journal with artifacts on a topic of their
choice that will epitomize their acquired knowledge and experience in
Greece.
Classics 385
Ancient Greek History (3 hrs.)
Students will get a hands-on experience of the country's history. The
archaeological sites and museums we visit represent the most important
hot-spots of antiquity, where major events took place. The textbook
readings correspond to museum assignments for which students are
asked to associate certain artifacts with historic events and place them in
their socio-political context.

GREECE-RELIGIOUS STUDIES
PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION
During Interim 2008, Prof. McCutcheon took four REL majors to Thessaloniki, Greece, for 12 days, to see local archeological sites, eat great food, and to meet with faculty and students enrolled in Aristotle University’s undergraduate and graduate programs in the History of Religions. Everyone had a wonderful time and many new friendships were made.
In May 2009 he’s going back—this time for 16 days. You’ll have four classes here before we fly (joined by Ms. Vaia Touna, our Local Coordinator while in Greece); once there, you’ll visit Mt. Olympus, see ancient Greek, Roman, and Byzantine sites, enjoy iced coffees and sweets along the Thermaic Gulf, and spend a day lounging at the beach. And yes, we’ll have a Greek salad (or two).
The program is open only to Majors and Minors in the Department of Religious Studies.
