OXFORD: ENGLISH AND HISTORY
PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION
The University of Alabama is pleased to offer a
summer term at Oxford University in England. In
its thirtieth year, this Program has a long and successful
history, and 2008 will see some significant
and exciting changes. The Program will be housed
at Worcester College, one of Oxford's loveliest colleges.
Founded in 1714 on the site of a medieval
monastic college, Worcester boasts an impressive
array of architectural styles-from medieval cottages
to eighteenth-century neo-classical buildings. The
College sits on 26 acres of beautiful gardens and
grounds, a secluded environment nestled in the center
of the city, only a short distance from both the
bus and rail stations. Students will find the city of
Oxford, and its surrounding area, full of cultural
opportunities in the summer: music in the magnificent
Sheldonian Theater, Shakespearean plays in
Stratford-upon-Avon, historic palaces in nearby villages,
and, of course, the bustle and drama of London,
only an hour away.
Students can choose from several three-hour courses,
which will be offered using the facilities at Worcester
College. They should expect a challenging and intellectually
invigorating experience. The Program is
open to undergraduate and graduate students, by
arrangement, who are registered at any two-year or
four-year institution in the United States, and to
other qualified persons.
