SCHOLARSHIPS

Many scholarships are available to assist students at The University of Alabama in covering the cost of overseas study. Some are available from Capstone International Center; others are available from national and/or international organizations. Students are encouraged to check the web sites below and to discuss available options with program directors and advisors.

 

Rotary Scholarships
Jack Seay Scholarship of the Rotary Club of Tuscaloosa provides $1,500 each year to one U.S. and one international undergraduate student. Apply through Capstone International Center, 135 BB Comer.


Spain Hickman Scholarship of the Rotary Club of Tuscaloosa provides $3,500 each year to one international graduate student. Apply through Capstone International Center.

Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships The Rotary Foundation provides the largest single U.S. scholarship program for overseas study. See http://www.rotary.org/ for details. Apply through Capstone International Center.

Paul Garner Scholarship of Tuscaloosa's International Friends provides $500 each year to one international undergraduate student.

Miyagawa Scholarships of the UA Japan Program provide $1,000 each year to one graduate or undergraduate student from Japan, and $1,000 each year to one undergraduate student, regardless of nationality, who will be studying the Japanese Language at the University of Alabama.

Edward H. Moseley Scholarship provides assistance for UA students who have graduated from high schools within the United States and are pursuing degrees in international studies, especially Latin America. The scholarship requires a minimum 3.5 grade point average and will assist students in a study abroad experience during Interim or Summer.

UA German Department Scholarships are for study in German-speaking countries; apply through the UA German department.

UMAP (University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific) Scholarship is a new scholarship of AIE-J that provides $1,400. See http://www.aiej.or.jp

Freeman-ASIA Program provides a stipend between $3,000 and $7,000 (depending on the length of the overseas study program) for undergraduate students to study in East and Southeast Asia. See http://www.iie.org/programs/Freeman-asia/

German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers scholarships for a semester or a year study abroad program in Germany. See http://www.daad.org/edude.htm

Monbusho (Ministry of Education of Japan) Scholarship provides round-trip transportation and a monthly stipend for study in Japan. See http://www.cgjapanatlanta.org/monbusho.html
Fulbright Student Grants are for graduation seniors and graduate students to study, teach and/or conduct research overseas. See http://www.iie.org/fulbright
