The Division of Opportunities, Connections and Success serves a leadership role in collaboration with existing and future University efforts to support all students seeking educational access and academic achievement. Acknowledging that different groups may have different barriers to success in higher education and employment, this division supports opportunities for students and employees across campus, regardless of backgrounds.
We provide opportunities for those who seek to come here, connections and programming to equip them while they are on our campus, and resources to support their career aspirations and future success.
To further enhance our efforts, the Division of Opportunities, Connections and Success will develop and oversee three primary initiatives in partnership with divisions and departments across campus, including:
Opportunities – Increasing access to higher education through heightened academic support and services to Alabama students and families with lower attendance rates.
Connections – Fostering campus-wide initiatives on free speech and civil discourse.
Success – Preparing students for the global workforce and helping students and employees understand and effectively work with individuals from varying backgrounds.

Global and Community Engagement includes the Language Partners program, Global Café events, and other collaborations with our international community. Through the Language Partners program, participants of all ages practice English language conversation skills, discuss their experiences living in the U.S., and share cultural insights. Global Café events offer a space for international residents to interact with UA students, faculty, and staff.
Global Café, an initiative of the Center for Community-Based Partnerships, takes place at Capital Hall on the Bryce Lawn Campus (Bldg 3419, 270 Kilgore Lane). Free parking is available, and bus stops are near.
Students and faculty connect with community at Global Café. Global Café welcomes people from across our community and around the world. Students, faculty, and community learn about local resources and opportunities and enjoy time together.
Global Café was created by campus and community partners of The University of Alabama Center for Community-Based Partnerships: Capstone International Center, Graduate Parent Support, Tuscaloosa’s One Place, the CCBP student team, Shelton State Community College, Tuscaloosa City Schools, the Tuscaloosa County School System, and numerous community leaders. Throughout the year, the planning and implementation of programs offer students exciting new paths to campus leadership, and Global Café invites you to get involved.

Our Language Partners Program offers free, one-on-one English language conversations, help in filling out forms, mastery of a specialized vocabulary, or whatever you need in the way of English language assistance.
More than that, it’s an opportunity to make a friend, talk about your home country’s culture, and learn more about living in the US!
