Apply – Intensive English Program
Step One
- New Students: Complete and submit an online application in English or in another language.
You may also download a paper application form and instructions in English. - Transfer Students ONLY: Complete an online application in English or in another language.
In addition, complete an ELI Transfer-In Request Form.
Step Two
Send the following documents by mail, fax or internet:
- Completed application form
- Financial support document (See below for details.)
- Copy of the passport photo page
- Application payment of $50 USD
Financial support document: This document shows that you, your parent, or your sponsor has at least $6,160 in US dollars for every session you plan to attend. You may send a recent bank statement from an account or a letter from the bank.
What Happens Next?
- We will process your application and collect a tuition deposit fee of $250.* Please see the ELI Tuition Deposit page for instructions for paying the deposit.
- We will mail you an I-20 form to apply for a student visa at the nearest U.S. embassy or Consulate.
*Please note:
- The ELI application is good for one year. After one year, a student must reapply.
- We refund the tuition deposit only if your visa is denied. We must receive the letter of denial from the embassy within 30 days of your visa appointment.
- We can only refund the deposit for six months from the time you send it. After six months, the deposit cannot be refunded.
- Admission to the ELI does not guarantee admission to a University of Alabama degree program.
Bringing Family Members
If you plan to bring family members with you, please provide the following information for each family member by email or on another sheet of paper and enclose it with your application:
- Full Name
- Date of Birth
- Place of Birth
- Relationship to Student
- Copy of the passport photo page
The estimated cost per session will increase by $850 for each family member accompanying you.
