In addition to the ELI’s Intensive English Program, the ELI offers a variety of programs to meet the needs of English learners at the UA and around the world.

Special Programs

Customized Groups

Customized programs can be designed for groups of 10 or more students and can offer flexible dates, length, content, and focus.

English + Business

A four-week program to improve English skills and learn about business concepts and practices in the United States

Teacher Training

A flexible program for groups of international English teachers who wish to improve their teaching expertise and English proficiency

English Lite

Non-intensive classes for non-native speakers who live in the Tuscaloosa area and want to improve their English language skills

Pathway to UA

The Pathway to UA program is designed for degree-seeking students who need a higher level of English proficiency. The programs can be completed in one or two semesters.

Semester Abroad at UA

Students with limited English proficiency can study abroad for one semester (or longer) and transfer undergraduate academic credit from UA to their home university.

Support Programs for UA Students

Pathway to UA

Pathway to UA allows degree-seeking students to earn academic credit while they study English and satisfy the English proficiency requirement.

Academic Support Program

The Academic Support Program provides courses that assist UA undergraduate and graduate students to develop and improve their oral and/or writing skills in English.

International Teaching Assistant Program (ITAP)

ITAP trains, evaluates, and screens international graduate students for instructional duties at UA.
