The Collegiate Model UN Experience
Collegiate Model United Nations is a traditional cornerstone of the Alabama International Relations Club, where club members have the opportunity to compete alongside college students from around the world and gain experience in debate, collaboration, compromise, problem-solving, negotiation, and diplomacy. At Model United Nations conferences, students react to crises within a governing body or represent countries of the United Nations in simulations of traditional U.N. bodies. Delegates are constantly challenged to react to new scenarios with innovative ideas and form cross-cultural solutions.
Each year, AIRC sends delegations of UA students to collegiate Model UN conferences across the United States and to an international conference to compete against other university students, gain invaluable experiences, and represent the University of Alabama. In the 2018-2019 academic year, AIRC attended five domestic conferences and one international conference: FSU Regional Training Conference in Tallahassee, NCSC in D.C., UNCMUNC in Chapel Hill, MUNE in Atlanta, ChoMUN in Chicago, and McMUN in Montreal.
For the 2019-2020 academic year, AIRC plans to attend six domestic conferences and one international conference. Any UA student that is a dues-paying member of the Alabama International Relations Club may apply to be on the AIRC delegation for a given collegiate conference. Applications will be sent out in the weekly AIRC email and will available on the AIRC website on the dates listed below.
